Chat
Open in AI
The learning chat belongs to a folder. It knows the sources you added to that folder and answers questions about them — with citations you can check.
The tutor features are called Nuvia in the app.
The learning space
Section titled “The learning space”The learning chat is more than an input field. On the left you find the navigation with these areas, grouped into Learning, Material and Settings:
- Chat plus Understanding, Learning paths, Learning books and Learning audio under Learning
- Learning sources and Learning collection (with Notebook, Flashcards and Quiz) under Material
- Tutor and Memory under Settings
On narrow screens you expand the navigation with the icon at the top left. At the very bottom, Back to folder takes you into the folder workspace.
At the top you see which area you are in, how the source sync is doing, and where to start a new chat.
Conversations
Section titled “Conversations”- New chat – via the plus at the top right. You get an empty conversation in the current folder.
- Switch – via the chat list on the left or the switcher in the top bar. Each entry shows the number of messages and the date.
- Rename – via a conversation’s menu. Without a name of its own it is called Untitled chat.
- Delete – also via the menu. The conversation is removed permanently.
- Load more chats – older conversations are loaded as you go further back.
Asking questions
Section titled “Asking questions”Write your question into the input field and press Enter. Shift + Enter inserts a line break.
Two hints come from the field itself:
- The placeholder reminds you that
/opens the chat actions. - Below it, the app states that learning chat answers can be wrong and that you should check important information against your sources.
While Nuvia is answering you can stop it with Stop. If you keep typing, your messages go into a queue and are sent one after another. You can edit, send or remove individual waiting messages.
What shapes the answer
Section titled “What shapes the answer”Four settings determine how Nuvia answers. You find them in the input field’s menu:
Source scope — what the answers may draw on: All sources, Selected folder or Individual files. The app shows the counts. While an answer is running, the scope cannot be changed.
Response detail — Flash for compact answers with the essential points, Pro for more explanation, examples and derivation. The detailed level belongs to a higher plan; if it is locked, the app tells you when you switch. You can also change the response detail by command.
Tutor — who answers. The default is Nuvia default; on top of that come the starter tutors and your own tutors. More in Tutors and memory.
Tool — what the answer is meant for:
| Tool | For |
|---|---|
| Auto | Nuvia picks the fitting tool itself. |
| Chat | Discussing sources and learning context. |
| Deep Solve | Working through multi-step tasks. |
| Quiz | Generating practice questions. |
| Visualise | Creating diagrams and visualisations. |
| Deep Research | Producing a deeper research report. |
| Math Animator | Preparing maths animations. |
Attaching files and sources
Section titled “Attaching files and sources”Via the menu you attach material directly to a message:
- Attach files – by picking them or by dragging them onto the chat area. Documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDFs and images are allowed.
- Limits: at most five files, up to 10 MB each, 25 MB in total. If you exceed a limit, the app tells you which one applies.
- Attachments are also stored in the source directory of your folder, so you can find and reuse them later.
- Attach sources – the source picker lets you choose material you already uploaded, including folder structure and search. That selection applies to the next message only and does not permanently override the general source scope.
Attachments and sources appear as chips below the input field and can be removed there.
Chat actions with /
Section titled “Chat actions with /”Typing / into the input field opens the action list. It is grouped by Files, Tools, Tutors, Sources and System, and it is searchable; use the arrow keys to choose and Enter to confirm.
Useful system actions:
- Start a new chat and Open split screen
- Stop answer, Answer briefly, Answer in detail, Switch response detail
- Use all sources – removes a source filter you set
- Reset chat controls – returns tutor, tool, mode and source scope to their defaults
- Open the Nuvia centre plus shortcuts to usage, plans, options, display, automations and news
- Open memory settings – opens the memory options without changing any consent
Reusing answers
Section titled “Reusing answers”Below every answer you find the actions:
- Copy – the message goes to the clipboard.
- Regenerate answer – Nuvia answers the same question again.
- Answer variants – if several answers exist, you switch between them.
- Save answer – stores the answer in the Notebook, where you can tag it and turn it into a note.
- Read aloud – has the answer read out. The voice is set in Settings.
- Report answer – when something is factually wrong, badly sourced or technically broken. You pick a reason, can add a comment and send the report.
- Processing time and learning energy – behind the details you see how long the answer took and what it cost.
You can edit your own last message and send it again — handy when you mistyped or asked unclearly.
Reading citations
Section titled “Reading citations”Answers about your material carry numbered references. A click opens the passage in the source — as a new tab in the split screen, or as a preview window on narrow screens.
For every reference you see how well the source supports the statement:
- This source supports the statement.
- This source only partly supports the statement.
- This source does not support the statement.
- This reference could not be checked technically.
If the source check cannot run completely, the app points out that you should look at the marked references particularly carefully.
Working next to the chat
Section titled “Working next to the chat”On large screens you open a second area next to the chat:
- Sources, citations, files and notes sit side by side as tabs.
- You adjust the width at the divider, or with the arrow keys.
- You can edit your Markdown note right next to it, select passages and discuss them with the tutor. From a selected passage, Nuvia can prepare a change suggestion for the note which you accept, discard or regenerate. If the note has moved on in the meantime, the app notices and asks you to regenerate rather than overwrite a stale passage.
- The question navigator on the right edge jumps to any of your questions in the history.
- A button at the bottom right takes you back to the latest message.
When Nuvia asks you something
Section titled “When Nuvia asks you something”Sometimes Nuvia needs a decision from you before answering. A block of short questions appears: you pick one of the offered options or give your own answer, switch between several questions and submit at the end. You can also skip the questions if you do not want to commit.
The Nuvia centre
Section titled “The Nuvia centre”The Nuvia centre opens at the top right. It bundles everything around the chat:
- Overview – your learning energy for the current month, broken down by what used it and by answer level.
- News – changes to your understanding map.
- Plans – the plan comparison.
- Options – automatic features such as flashcards from the chat, memory and daily summaries, plus memory consents.
- Display – size of chat content and width of the chat column.
Limits and things to know
Section titled “Limits and things to know”- Answers can be wrong. Always check important statements against the source — every reference is clickable.
- Without sources the chat is less reliable. If the folder has no material, Nuvia answers more freely and mistakes are more likely.
- AI usage costs learning energy. How much you have per month is shown under AI usage; the breakdown shows what it was spent on.
- The source scope is locked while an answer runs. That keeps an answer internally consistent.
- Some messages cannot be processed. If a request violates the content guidelines, the app tells you and asks you to phrase it differently.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Can I use the chat without sources? Yes, it then works in free mode. For subject questions the source mode is considerably more reliable.
Why is there no answer to my last message? It may still be running — then the app says an answer is being generated. If the connection dropped, the app tries to restore it and shows the attempt.
Can I share a chat with someone? No. A conversation stays in your account.
Where do saved answers end up? In the Notebook under Material. From there you can turn them into a note or save them as a flashcard.
